Shillong, Aug 28: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs, Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday said the matter relating to the proposed revenue enhancement to the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) is under examination.
In his reply tabled in the Assembly, Tynsong stated that the government is also examining the matter of making recruitment and exams compulsory in the three ADCs for ensuring transparency and accountability.
At present, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has a total staff strength of 818, Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) – 1397 and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) – 1161.
Further, Tynsong informed that there are 6 bills passed by the KHADC which are still languishing at the department and the cabinet, 1 by the GHADC and 2 by the JHADC.
“The reason is due to errors in drafting, conflict with state laws or constitutional provisions,” he said.
The deputy CM also informed that an expert committee was constituted on September 26, 2023 headed by the secretary, DCA and includes officials from law department and officials from the ADCs.
The committee shall coordinate the processing of all Bills sent to the Governor of Meghalaya for his assent and sort issues that may arise therefrom expeditiously, he added.
