SHILLONG, FEB 24: VPP legislator Brightstarwell Marbaniang Tuesday urged the intervention of the Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise N Marakk to commission a scientific study of water sources near the Marten landfill, which he said residents avoid for fear of contamination.
“The Marten landfill was there since 1930…residents have stopped fetching water as they fear contamination,” Marbaniang told the Assembly.
In his reply, Marak said normally the ground water study is done by the Central Ground Water Board.
“…but since the member is insisting I will get it examined,”he assured.
