SHILLONG, MAY 25: Minister for Public Health Engineering Marcuise N Marak on Monday held an in-depth state-level review of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and major water supply schemes at Windermere Resort, Shillong, where he also launched a digital portal for contractor registration developed by NIC.
The review covered flagship urban projects including the New Shillong Township, Williamnagar Phase 2, Greater Shillong, and Baghmara Water Supply Schemes, along with rural schemes across the state.
“Held a comprehensive review meeting on the implementation and progress of various Water Supply Schemes across Meghalaya,” Marak said.
“The meeting was attended by the Commissioner & Secretary, Joint Secretary, Chief Engineers, Additional Chief Engineers, and officials of the PHE Department.”
The meeting assessed progress under JJM and pending dues.
He also reviewed progress of Jal Jeevan Mission and pending dues which are getting addressed by the Ministry and state government by meeting the criteria laid down by government of India for release.
The minister noted satisfaction with JJM performance.
“The meeting also assessed the progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and satisfaction was expressed regarding the achievements made and the fulfilment of the criteria laid down by the Government of India for the release of pending JJM payments,” Marak said.
Other matters discussed included the creation of Shillong and Tura Jal Boards, strengthening water quality monitoring and testing facilities, and efforts to strengthen Village and Water Sanitation Committees.
“Measures to strengthen water quality monitoring and water testing facilities” were reviewed, along with “the efforts to strengthen Village and Water Sanitation Committees. Coordination with the PWD Roads Department and Forest Department, and “measures for source protection in close collaboration with Soil & Water Conservation Department,” were also taken up.
During the meeting, Marak launched a new online system for contractors.
“Additionally, I had the honour of launching the digital portal for ‘Application from Contractors for Registration/Renewal under Different Categories,’ developed by NEC, aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and ease of access in the registration process,” he said.
The review meeting was attended by the Commissioner and Secretary PHE, Chief Engineer, Joint Secretary PHE, and officials at the level of Additional Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Sub Divisional Officers representing all PHE Divisions.
Newly recruited Assistant Engineers were also formally welcomed at the meeting.
