DIBRUGARH, June 24: For more than seven decades, residents of three remote villages in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district remained cut off from nearby Miao, relying on a hanging bridge and an arduous 80-kilometre detour through Assam to access basic services.
On Tuesday, that changed with the inauguration of a motorable steel girder Bailey bridge over the River Rima at Khamlang by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.

The bridge, a long-pending demand of residents of Sangwal Khamlang, Tikhak Khamlang and Mossang Khamlang villages, is expected to significantly improve access to healthcare, education, markets and government services.
Calling it a “historic milestone”, Mein said the project reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring last-mile connectivity and inclusive development in remote and neglected regions of Arunachal Pradesh.
The bridge also strengthens connectivity along the historic Stilwell Road corridor connecting Nampong and Jairampur and is expected to improve access to Namdapha National Park, opening new opportunities for tourism and local economic growth.
Residents celebrated the inauguration, saying the bridge would spare them the long and arduous journey they had endured for decades to reach Miao.
