Shillong, Oct 27: The power department has proposed the need to have more sub-stations in the state.
“We are moving a proposal to the government and also had a detailed discussion with the chief minister that we need more sub-stations in critical areas,” power minister Abu Taher Mondal said.
“The chief minister has agreed to help us from the state fund in phase wise manner, (as) if we wait for central fund, it will take years,” he added.
Mondal said setting up of more sub-stations will take care of critical areas where the distribution line is very long and there is fluctuation of power, drop of voltage and all these things that happened.
“…we are trying to see that this problem is mitigated because you can see there are long distribution lines with one substation and many it is distribution transformers are connected to that line. So, if one area gets disturbed, so other areas also get disturbed. So we are working on it,” he stated.
Asked, the minister said that many sub-stations will be set up through the ADB funding and other fundings.
“Recently we have inaugurated one in Sohiong constituency and one in Damlagre. We were supposed to inaugurate one substation in the South West Garo Hills in Purakashia, but because of the flash flood portion of the transmission line was washed away.”
“So, we postpone the inauguration of Purakhasia substation, where CM was supposed to inaugurate on 8th October,” he said while adding “So similarly, we are taking care of to see that many substations will be now starting, because we put pressure on the executive contractors also, our officers also working overtime to see that this substations are commissioned as early as possible.”
