Meghalaya police collect Rs 1.5 lakh in fines during Laitumkhrah naka, scooty rider tries to run over cop

SHILLONG, MAY 2: East Khasi Hills police collected fines amounting to approximately ₹1.5 lakh during a naka checking at Laitumkhrah Police Point on Friday.

The enforcement drive was carried out with a deployment of 30 traffic personnel and 15 Special Operations Team members.

Members of the Laitumkhrah Durbar including Rangbah Shnong and Rangbah Dong were present to support the enforcement drive, while requesting that such initiatives be continued regularly.

Police reported several violations during the checking.

“During the operation, fines amounting to approximately ₹1.5 lakh were imposed,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said.

“Several cases of drunk driving were detected, along with multiple instances of vehicles with illegal modification,” he added.

One rider attempted to evade the checking and endangered a police official.

“In one incident, a scooty rider attempted to run over UBC SM Sangma while trying to evade checking,” the SP said.

“Necessary legal action is being initiated in this regard,” he added.

Syiem said the district police will maintain the enforcement momentum.

“EKH District will continue its drive to keep our streets safe and secure,” he said.
