Gangtok, Nov 23: The Meghalaya Police Football Team has secured a place in the Semifinals of the Quasquicentennial Invitation NorthEast & East Zone Football Tournament after winning against Mizoram Police Team on Wednesday.
It took just two minutes in the first half for Mizoram Police to open the scoreline with a goal from Lalnunsanga, but Everywell Khongjee of Meghalaya Police equalised with a beautiful goal before the half hour mark, leaving the scoreline at 1-1 at the end of the first half.
Coming back for the second half, Mizoram were back in the lead with a goal from Valpuia at 67th minutes. However, the unyielding Meghalaya continued to put pressure and near the close of play at the 84th minute, Heswanwell Lyngdoh Marshillong put the ball past the Mizoram goalkeeper to end the game with a 2-2 draw.
With a 2-2 scoreline after the 90th minute normal time, the game when straight to penalties where Meghalaya won the tie with a 5-4 scoreline.
Meghalaya Police will take on Manipur Police in the Semi finals on Friday.
