Shillong, Nov 15: As part of the Meghalaya’s ASHA volunteers agitation across the state, a protest rally was held at East Jaiñtia Hills by the East Jaiñtia ASHA Association under the aegis of the Meghalaya ASHA Union at Khliehriat, East Jaiñtia Hills, on Wednesday.
In a protest rally organised by the East Jaiñtia ASHA Association – Khliehriat Unit, President Pretty Jyrwa voiced concerns regarding the monthly pay of ASHA volunteers.
The president of the East Jaiñtia ASHA Association – Khliehriat Unit, Pretty Jyrwa, questioned the health minister, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh, about the Rs. 3,000 when they are paid only Rs. 2,000 per month while the government claims to have paid the ASHAs Rs. 5,000.
She further reiterated that many of the ASHA volunteers have kids, and they have to carry them to work because the mere amount that they are being paid won’t help them put their infants or children in creches or bear the cost of paying a nanny.
The rally started from Stand Byndihati, passed through the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and the District Medical and Health Officer’s Office, and culminated at the SBI Khliehriat Branch.
On Tuesday, the West Jaintia Hills District Asha Association (WJHDSA) organised a rally from Tympang Club playground via Iawmusiang to Daimasi playground, Ladthalaboh carrying written placards with slogans denouncing MDA government.
Also, a protest rally was organised by the Meghalaya ASHA Union at Jowai on Tuesday to press their demands from the state government.
