Shillong, July 15: Yet another successful campaign has been initiated by Mirchi 91.1 Shillong’s Radio Jockey, Nicky J. as part of ‘My Shillong My Pride’ campaign at Umpling enroute to Ishyrwat which had turned into a dump yard due the indiscriminate dumping of garbage.

The campaign started on July 9, 2021 with Nicky J. staging a silent protest for 6-7 hours a day at that very sight. During the course of the next few days, concerned citizens from different parts of the city joined along with him as a mark of protest and finally on July 14, 2021, after 4 days, the Dorbar Shnong of Umpling joined in to support the campaign by cleaning up the very site.

The Headman of Umpling appreciated the initiative taken up my Nicky J. and thanked him for motivating them to strive harder to continue work to keep the village and the adjoining areas clean and also asserted that henceforth there will strict vigilance and efforts to nab the culprits are involved in indiscriminate dumping of garbage and also seek support of the law enforcement authorities.

RJ Nicky J. said the clean up was a temporary solution to the problem and demanded the State Government to immediately come up with a comprehensive community based waste management and also to find an alternative location to shift the present landfill site at Marten.
