Tura, Aug 20: Meghalaya Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Minister A.T. Mondal concluded a two-day inspection of the four C&RD blocks in South West Garo Hills district on Tuesday evening.

Accompanied by Salmanpara MLA Ian Botham K. Sangma, Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, and DRDA Project Director R.Z.D. Shira, the minister visited Rerapara, Betasing, Zikzak, and Purakhasia blocks to gain first-hand insight into the challenges and functioning of the block offices. Rangsakona MLA Subir Marak also joined the team during the inspection at Rerapara.

Mondal inspected the construction of new block office buildings at Rerapara and Zikzak, and at Purakhasia, he visited land donated by Nokmas for a proposed block office complex. In all four locations, he interacted with local communities to understand their concerns.

Later, a review meeting was held at Circuit House, Ampati, with the participation of MLAs, district officials, BDOs, and officers from DRDA. The meeting focused on evaluating the performance of the blocks, particularly the implementation of MGNREGA and other central schemes, as block offices serve as the key contact points for grassroots development.

The minister’s visit forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen service delivery and ensure effective execution of development programmes across the state.
