Mother electrocute while collecting wild edible herbs in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh, Feb 14: In an unfortunate incident on Tuesday, a 52-year-old mother from Umran Dairy, Ri Bhoi was electrocuted while searching for wild edible herbs with her children near their village.

The deceased, identified as Edwina Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi, came from a very poor family and used to gather wild edible herbs to support her family. However, on Tuesday, she tragically stepped on a broken electric wire left unattended on the ground. The high voltage of the wire claimed her life on the spot.

Witnessing the incident, her daughter cried for help to turn off the electricity and save her mother. Unfortunately, by the time help arrived, the mother had already passed away, and her body was taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for necessary procedures.

According to the Village Headman of Umiam Diary, Lambor Mukhim Bina, who rushed to the spot upon receiving the information, the incident occurred due to a recently broken electric wire falling to the ground. He urges concern department to regular monitoring of trees that could grow over electrical wires, as most unfortunate incidents stem from this issue.

Furthermore, the Village Headman urged the concerned authorities to take precautions regarding high voltage wires and ensure regular monitoring to prevent similar incidents in the future.
