SHILLONG, MAR 22: NPP state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said this year’s Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya is very special because the people will vote for the party from both Shillong and Tura seats due to development.
“This year, the MP election in Meghalaya is so special for the NPP because in the last term we did not set up candidate from Shillong but only from Tura. We won with a thumbing majority as far as Tura is concerned in the last term. So this term, I am telling you, we are going to win both the seats,” Tynsong said after NPP candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh has filed her nomination from Shillong for the Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 19.
He informed that the party leaders and grass root workers are on the job and they are entering each and every household urging the people to please vote for the NPP.
“Right now, we are on the ground and all our party leaders are visiting each and every polling station, each and every village and we will not sleep till April 19, till polling day is over,” Tynsong added.
Asked, the NPP said there is anti-incumbency against the NPP and in fact people are joining the party every day because of its performance.
“People are joining us everyday and why they are doing that because they have seen it not only MDA – 1 but MDA -2 in a matter of one year, we have seen alot of changes and alot of focus we made for the interest of the state as a whole. Therefore, lots of leaders irrespective of which denomination you are, which party you are but they keep joining us. So you understand NPP is growing day by day,” he sad.
Stating that people will vote for NPP because of development, Tynsong said, “They have seen that the leadership is stable in the party of NPP and there is no misunderstanding amongst the party leaders, we are one. NPP we dont call political party, we call NPP family so that is why people really love NPP because of this quality they have.”
