Kohima, July 28: The Nagaland government has disbursed ₹4 lakh each as ex-gratia relief to the families of the eight people who lost their lives in the devastating landslide that struck Thamnan Ward in Mon town earlier this month.

The assistance, released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms, was handed over by the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Mon, in the presence of the presidents of the Konyak Union (KU) and the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU).

The landslide, which occurred on July 19, was among the deadliest rain-triggered disasters reported during the ongoing monsoon in Nagaland, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation before all eight victims were recovered.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) said it has coordinated the relief process with the DDMA, Mon, to ensure timely financial assistance reaches the bereaved families.

Expressing condolences, the NSDMA reiterated its commitment to providing prompt relief and rehabilitation support to disaster-affected communities across the state in coordination with district administrations.

Nagaland has witnessed widespread destruction this monsoon, with heavy rains triggering landslides, flash floods and road blockages across several districts, disrupting connectivity and affecting thousands of residents.
