Imphal, Aug 9: In a significant turn of events, the Naga tribal communities in Manipur staged massive rallies on Wednesday, making a resounding plea for the resolution of the longstanding Naga political issue based on the Framework Agreement.
The said agreement was inked between the Central government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) on August 3, 2015.
The monumental gatherings were organized under the banner of the United Naga Council (UNC), which serves as the apex governing body of the Nagas residing in Manipur. The rallies were held across four districts that are predominantly inhabited by Naga populations – Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul, and Senapati. These districts are strategically situated along the borders of Nagaland and Myanmar.
Following the rallies in these four districts, the UNC also submitted a memorandum directly addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The memorandum was delivered through the respective Deputy Commissioners of the districts.
A sea of placards and banners adorned with fervent messages marked the rallies, which drew participation from both men and women. The collective voices raised slogans in unison, underscoring the urgency for a swift and conclusive resolution to the ongoing Naga peace talks.
