GUWAHATI, May 11: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is storming ahead in the Assam Panchayat elections, with early counting trends on Sunday showing a sweeping lead across Zila Parishads and regional panchayats.

The verdict, still unfolding, already signals a decisive mandate from rural voters—and the BJP is calling it historic.

Reacting to the trends, Assam BJP president and MP Dilip Saikia hailed the wave of support as “extraordinary and unprecedented.” He credited the alliance’s dominant performance to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying their development agenda has resonated strongly across Assam’s villages.

“This is a vote of confidence for the transformative work done under the NDA. The people have chosen continuity, progress, and stability,” Saikia declared in an official media statement.

He also emphasized the critical role played by senior leaders—including Union Minister and former CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister Pabitra Margherita—alongside AGP partners and a tireless grassroots workforce. According to Saikia, this united front was key to expanding the NDA’s reach deep into rural Assam.

Thanking voters for their overwhelming support, Saikia said the result transcends party lines and reflects a unified endorsement of the NDA’s roadmap for rural upliftment. He pledged that every promise in the BJP’s Sankalp Patra (manifesto) would be implemented with clear timelines, reinforcing the party’s commitment to strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions.

This year’s momentum builds on the BJP’s past panchayat success. In the 2018 elections, the BJP secured 212 Zila Parishad seats while its ally AGP bagged 19. The duo also dominated the regional panchayats, with BJP winning 1,025 member constituencies and AGP taking 118.
