Neeraj Chopra wins historic World Athletics Championships gold with 88.17 metres throw in javelin final

Shillong, Aug 28: Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra made the country proud again after winning India’s first gold medal at the World Athletics Championship 2023; he threw 88.17 metres in his second attempt.

Chopra’s remarkable achievement not only secured him the top spot on the podium but also broke the previous championship record.

The ‘golden boy of Indian athletics’ also became the first-ever Indian athlete to secure a gold medal at this prestigious championship.

In the 2022 edition, he secured a silver medal.

Subedar Neeraj Chopra’s exceptional performance has solidified his position as one of the world’s leading javelin throwers.

Meanwhile, Chopra’s compatriot Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan finished second, finishing marginally behind the Indian gold medalist at 87.82m. While, the Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch settled for the bronze in 86.67m.

After winning the championship, Chopra dedicated the win to all the Indians.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated golden boy for creating history and making the country proud.
