SHILLONG, NOV 25: The state government has extended an offer for advanced treatment outside Shillong to two NEHU students, critically injured in a November 17 campus accident, ensuring no cost barrier if local facilities fall short.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar provided an update on the condition of the two students saying, one is “quite okay” while the other “needs more time” in hospital.
“Hopefully, they will be okay,” he said.
“However, the government has conveyed that if Shillong facilities aren’t enough, shift them out…for better treatment,” Dhar added, emphasizing support amid ongoing treatment at the Nazareth hospital.
Daritngen Pohdukhei and Stephanie Shadap were critically injured and admitted in the ICU at the Nazareth hospital after being hit by a car driven by a NEIGRIHM security guard Permen M Sangma on November 17.
Sangma was arrested and booked under section related to attempt to murder.
The MHRC has also separately taken suo motu cognizance of alleged neglect at Shillong Civil Hospital, probing staff response.
