Shillong, Nov 25: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday informed in many locations, land have been handed over to the department for construction of the Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across the state.
Speaking to media persons, Rymbui acknowledged hurdles but praised community cooperation saying, “It is not very easy in the state of Meghalaya to start any project. Having said that I am very thankful to the respective community, land owner, villages, who have parted their land for the setting up of EMRS.”
“In many of the locations, the land have been identified, land have been given to the department for necessary action,” he added.
Responding to allegations, Rymbui said that the two finished schools—Paham and Samanda—were pre-sanctioned, executed by the state, operational since September.
“After that, now EMRS are in the process of construction by the different implementing agencies,” he said while adding “Earlier this month, the chief minister had visited one location in Amlarem sub division’s Umladkhur where the timeline has been fixed to finish the construction on March 21, 2026. Therefore, we hope we can start the functioning by the next academic year.”
“Therefore, it is not a question of why only two but it is a question of the ball has been set rolling and now one after the other in the next few years, these schools will be operationalized,” the minister asserted further.
