NEHU Tura hosts national training on food and water quality analysis

Tura, March 26: A five-day national-level training-cum-workshop on advanced food and water quality analysis is underway at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Tura Campus.

The five-day programme was inaugurated on March 24. It was organised by the Department of Agri-Business Management and Food Technology in collaboration with the Incubation Centre (LBI-MSME). The programme is supported by the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The workshop will equip participants with practical and analytical skills to address growing public health concerns related to food and water safety.

Dr R. Sasikumar, Principal Investigator and Organising Secretary, welcomed participants and outlined the objectives of the training, emphasising its focus on bridging scientific knowledge with real-world applications.

Delivering a special address, Dr Sheena Haorongbam, Head (i/c) of the department, highlighted the importance of advanced analytical techniques in ensuring quality standards and safeguarding public health.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. Fameline K. Marak, Pro Vice-Chancellor of NEHU Tura Campus, who stressed the need for hands-on scientific training to strengthen food and water quality monitoring systems and empower young researchers.

Dr K. Ch. Momin, Head of the Department of Horticulture, underscored the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing research, while special invitee Prof. Gopal Shukla from the Department of Forestry spoke on sustainable approaches to food and water management.

The workshop which will conclude on March 28 will have lectures, laboratory demonstrations, and interactive sessions designed to provide both theoretical understanding and practical exposure.
