New Dollois elected for Elaka Shangpung and Elaka Nartiang in Jaiñtia Hills

Jowai, Mar 25: The counting of the votes for elections to the Dolloiship to two Elakas of Jaiñtia Hills – Elaka Nartiang and Elaka Shangpung – was done by the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on Friday whereby Chanki Langbang was elected as the Dolloi of Elaka Shangpung and Salong Lamare was elected as the Dolloi of Elaka Nartiang.

Chanki Langbang was elected the Dolloi of Elaka Shangpung by securing 5506 votes, defeating Daeiladmi Sungoh and Harising Papng who secured 2720 and 194 votes, respectively, while there were 220 invalid votes.Addressing media persons, Chanki Langbang vowed to work for the people of Elaka Shangpung and work towards the final demarcation of the boundaries of the Elaka. He also appealed to the people of the Elaka to work with him to enable him to perform the duties as the Dolloi.

From Elaka Nartiang, Salong Lamare won by securing 3180 votes followed by Jomeo Dkhar who secured 2403 votes, Leibanki Dkhar secured 141 votes while Helpmi Dhar secured only 36 votes and 186 were invalid votes.

Salong Lamare promised to work equally for the people of the Elaka and to preserve the unique customs and religious practices of the people of the Elaka. He also sought God’s blessing for the people of the Elaka and to protect and guide them all along.

It may be noted here that when elected, the person becomes a Dolloi of the Elaka for his lifetime performing religious and judicial and executive duties as practised and as empowered by the laws of the JHADC.
