Shillong, Mar 25: National People’s Party (NPP) Supremo and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday welcomed Mawlai MDC and EM of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Teiborlang Pathaw to the party at Mawlai Datbaki, Shillong. He also announced that Mawlai MDC Teiborlang Pathaw will be the official candidate of the party from the constituency in the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls.

“As announced by the deputy chief minister, Teiborlang Pathaw is the candidate of the NPP from Mawlai,” Sangma said while addressing a function to formally welcome Pathaw and his supporters to the NPP family.

Party Vice president and Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, Working President and Cabinet Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and the MDCs of the KHADC were present during the welcome ceremony of the Mawlai MDC.Speaking on the occasion, Conrad Sangma has lauded the Mawlai MDC for his contribution towards the society as he has provided employment to hundreds of youth. “A true sign of a leader is someone who addresses the issues of the people, someone who serves people beyond politics… Teibor Pathaw has always exemplified this characteristic in him,” he said.

“Many leaders want to join the NPP not because the Party’s leaders are forcing them but it is because they see something in the National People’s Party, they have seen that there is hope for the state and for the people in this party, because this is the party that has faced many challenges in the last four years. But we as a party have always ensured to put the interest of the people of the state first,” added the NPP Chief.

He also stated that in the last four years in the government, no force was used to suppress the protesters on facing law and order situation. “We do not need to use force against them. But we need to talk to them, we need to listen to them. We need to find a solution through dialogue and that is why in the last four years we have seen no matter what challenges we faced we have never allowed the law and order situation to go to the level where innocent lives were lost when innocent people were hurt,” Sangma said.

He further stated that NPP as a party has listened to the voice of the people and that is why today the fate of these leaders who are joining the National People’s Party has grown.

The Chief Minister further encouraged the NPP leaders to fight the elections with twin mindset — the winning mentality and the losing mentality.

“Fear of losing is the important factor in politics and elections. Election is not easy, election is very tough; that is why I want you to (have) fear of losing, with this mentality you will put more efforts and go an extra mile,” he said.
