SHILLONG, FEB 27: The new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building is on track to be completed before the autumn session in August, announced Speaker Thomas A Sangma.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Sangma said, “The progress is quite good, but we have a very hard timeline as we have to finish by June or July because the next session is in August so we have to finish it before that.”
The interior work, including security systems, audio-visual, lighting, and data cables, is being handled by a US-based firm that worked on the parliament.
“Those materials are being manufactured outside the state and they are already on the way and we expect the material to reach next month,” Sangma said.
The project budget is around Rs 30 crores, and the new building will have enough room to accommodate all members, with 45 seats capacity for both ruling and opposition parties.
The contractors have been asked to work round the clock to meet the deadline.
