Shillong, Jan 16: The year 2022 was a year that no one will forget. It showed many phases of life as well as new faces of people. It was year of surprises and one of the surprises that 2022 brought us was Nitish Kumar’s resignation as Bihar CM.

Resignation of Bihar Chief Minister
After the defeat in recent held assembly byelection Nitish Kumar was asked to resign from his position. Shushil Kumar Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and Bhartiya Janata Party and Rajya Sabha MP demanded Nitish Kumar’s resignation after their defeat the Janata Dal (United) in Kurhani Assembly bypoll.

He also submitted a support letter of 160 MLA’s to form a new government. He told Chauhan while after submitting his resignation”All MPs and MLAs are at a consensus that we should leave the NDA,”

Speaking to reporters after putting in his papers, Kumar said the decision to leave the NDA was taking by the JD(U).

As Nitish Kumar lost the bypoll people had many things to say “This is not the defeat of Nitish Kumar that he lost a seat of RJD but the people of Kurhhave taught him a lesson. If there is any morality left in Nitish Kumar, he should resign and hand over the Chief Ministership to Tejashwi Yadav,” former RJD MLA said.

RJD and BJP first face off
This was the first time in the history when these two parties competed together to mark their win at the Kurhani seat. These elections were prompted after RJD MLA Anil Kumar Sahani was disqualified from the seat in a fraud case.

according to chargesheet by CBI in 2015, Anil Kumar Sahani was in a scam that broke out in 2013 with a probe agency which claimed the loss of 23.71 lakh caused by them to the exchequer.

Poll results and Sushil Kumar Modi
By securing 72,722 votes BJP’S Kedar Prasad Gupta won the bypoll and JD(U)’s Manoj Kushwaha Singh got 73,073 votes. According to the data of Election Commission of India, Kurhaniassemblu seat in Bihar saw a 57.90 per cent turnout till 5 PM.

While commenting on the results Shushil Kumar Modi also said “After the defeat in Gopalganj and now in Kurhani Assembly Bypoll Nitish Kumar should resign. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Election, Nitis Kumar as reduced to two seats in Bihr and then had to resign, similarly, he should accept tht his popularity has decreased.”

Sushil Kumar told ANI ON December 8“Nitish Kumar’s core voters are mostly from backward caste and most of them have chosen BJP, though crores of rupees were distributed the day before polling night and yet JDU lost.

He also said that Kurhanibypoll results shows that the Grand Alliance has lost ground in the state, especially under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. “Now people want change and Nitish Kumar should understand the time.”

Nitish Kumar breaking ties with BJP
After breaking ties with Bharatiya Janata Party, Nitish Kumar announced his resignation. He met Governor Phagu Chauhan at Bhavan alone and after coming out of the Bhavan announced his resignation to media who was waiting outside.

He said “I was the chief minister of Bihar. Now, I have given my resignation from the post of Chief Minister.”.

After this Nitish Kumar met leader of JDU party where his decision of breaking ties with BJP was made.

Forming new alliance with the opponent
After breaking ties with BJP Nitish Kumar is on his way to pave the way for the return of the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar. Nitish Kumar once again planning to form alliance with the opponent party Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal for another grand alliance 2.0.Nitish has also potentially put a hurdle in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plans for re-election for the 2024 Lok

Even in 2013 Nitish Left BJP for his protests against Gujarat Minister Narendra Modibut at that time instead of resigning he had dismissed the then Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, including all the ministers from the BJP quota, from his government.

Why BJP did not stop Nitish Kumar?
It was clear that Nitish Kumar will leave NDA. But what caught people by surprise was why BJP did not try to stop him?

According to the sources, BJP leaders has already had a meeting with Nitish Kumar over the breaking ties with BJP. But BJP denied this report.

This time BJP did not try to stop Nitish Kumar from as he has already made the decision of leaving. He wants to expand his political ambitions in national politics. BJP leader also took a step further by criticising him. Considering Nitish Kumar’s stubbornness, the BJP leaders did not make any effort to persuade Nitish Kumar to remain in the NDA alliance and save the coalition government in Bihar.
