No need to panic, Meghalaya has enough food, assures Minister amid war tension

Shillong, May 8: Minister in-charge Food & Civil Supplies Comingone Ymbon on Thursday reviewed the availability of food stocks in the state in view of the India-Pakistan prevailing situation.

After chairing the meeting, Ymbon said, “As minister, I have immediately convened a meeting with all deputy commissioners and sub-divisional officers to review the availability of food stocks in view of the prevailing situation.”

“All DCs and SDOs have reported that there is no shortage and that we have sufficient food stocks,” he added.

Asked, the minister informed that the monthly requirement of the state in as far as foodgrain is concerned is around 12000 metric tons.

“Though the government of India is yet to issue any instruction, as a state we want to be fully prepared to ensure our citizens are not affected,” he said.

He further urged the citizens of the state not to worry and said, “There is no need to resort to panic buying as we have sufficient stock of food supply.”

He added people can call on the helpline number ‘1967’ if they have any problem.
