Maligaon, April 27: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved a remarkable milestone by recording its highest-ever scrap sale during the 2023-24 fiscal year. The railway zone earned an impressive Rs. 202.84 crores from the sale of scrap items, marking a significant 6.8% increase compared to the previous year’s revenue of Rs. 189.92 crores.
This outstanding achievement is a direct result of the “Zero Scrap Mission” undertaken by Indian Railways. Under this initiative, NFR ensured that its divisions, workshops, and sheds were free from scrap material, contributing to a cleaner and more efficient railway network.
During the last fiscal year, NFR sold a staggering 23,553 MT of scrap rails, permanent way materials, and 19,192 MT of miscellaneous scrap items. Additionally, the railway zone successfully disposed of 26 diesel locomotives, 247 coaches, and 284 wagons, further streamlining its operations and generating revenue.
The ‘Zero Scrap Mission’ drive has not only generated substantial revenue for Indian Railways. Still, it has also created space for accumulating other materials, including scrap. Continuous monitoring keeps stations, depots, sheds, workshops, and sections free from scrap, improving the overall aesthetics of the railway premises and surrounding areas.
In an official release, Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, emphasized the importance of the mission, stating, “This monitoring has not only helped in surpassing the scrap sale target but also improved the aesthetics of stations, workplaces and surrounding areas. It has also helped to keep the railway premises clean and environment-friendly.”
