Tura, April 8: The multi-crore projects initiated for development of Garo Hills, particularly neglected South Garo Hills district, will steer the NPP to power in the upcoming GHADC polls, believe party workers and supporters as the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma pays a visit to the most far flung remote areas to put across the message of progress to the people.
The Chief Minister spent a sizeable portion of his time in South Garo Hills addressing election campaigns for party candidates in five MDC seats, since Wednesday.
From distant Siju to remote Rongara and all the way to Gasuapara border belt, including Baghmara town, Conrad Sangma reminded the public about the steps his government has taken in the last three years to boost infrastructure in the region.
“Our government is committed to fast tracking development in South Garo Hills region because people from this part of the state have for long faced neglect at the hands of previous governments. We intend to transform the development scenario of the region which is why we have prioritized a growth chart that includes adequate infrastructure for schools and hospitals and boosting tourism to ensure jobs,” said Conrad Sangma in his rally at Rongara village which is near the border with South West Khasi Hills.
He said that before the 2023 assembly elections, a number of interventions initiated by his government for the region would be completed.
“Infrastructure development and social development and livelihood is the main focus of this Govt and we are committed to transform the lives of the region and provide economic opportunities to our people”, the Chief Minister said.
On tourism, he said that intervention will be made, so as to attract tourist from across the globe. “South Garo Hills had huge tourism potential and Govt has conceptualised a road map to tap the opportunity. It will take time but Govt is committed to turn around the situation for the people of South Garo Hills,” he asserted.
Seeking a strong endorsement for his party and candidates, the chief minister reminded that gathering that team work was of utmost importance in every field which is why work progresses when the MDC, MLA and MP belong to the same party.
Speaking about the problems faced by the GHADC, the chief minister said that the council needs assistance and support from the government which is why it is imperative for the voters to bring a party which is in power at the state level.
“Voting for the ruling party will enable the GHADC to perform and make a difference to the lives of our people,” said Conrad Sangma.
The NPP MLA representing Siju Rongara, Rakkam A Sangma, who campaigned alongside chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday to seek mandate for NPP in the GHADC elections praised him for initiating development in South Garo Hills region.
He said that the region, which has remained neglected for over two decades is now on a “development track” as the ruling Govt has initiated major projects, including construction of roads and bridges.
He informed that the most neglected route from Tura to Baghmara, Panda to Kanai, Ranikor to Moheskola and several other important roads, have started, which will turn around the development scenario of the region and Garo Hills.
He also informed the gathering on major projects to upscale education and health scenario in the region vis-a-via promoting tourism in the most sought after destination – Balpakram and Siju.
