OIL India Limited partners with GMCH to revolutionize urological care in Assam

Guwahati, March 26: In a major step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Assam, Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) to provide state-of-the-art urological surgery equipment under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. This strategic partnership aims to equip GMCH with cutting-edge technology, reinforcing its capability to offer advanced treatment to patients suffering from urological conditions.

The MoU was formalized by Madhurjya Barua, Executive Director (HR&FA), OIL, and Dr. Achyut Chandra Baishya, Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of GMCH, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in bridging the gap between modern medical technology and accessible healthcare in the region.

As part of this initiative, OIL will introduce Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL) technology at GMCH, a revolutionary advancement in urological surgery. This state-of-the-art system is set to transform the treatment of urinary stones, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and bladder tumours. Compared to conventional Holmium: YAG lasers, TFL technology offers enhanced precision, superior stone fragmentation, and minimally invasive procedures with reduced operating times. This results in shorter hospital stays, quicker patient recovery, and improved overall treatment outcomes.

By bringing TFL technology to GMCH, OIL is reinforcing its commitment to social welfare while supporting India’s healthcare development goals. The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG), Union government’s broader vision of promoting ‘Health and Nutrition’ as part of national development strategies.

The introduction of this advanced medical technology at GMCH is expected to have far-reaching effects on the state’s healthcare system. It will significantly improve the quality and accessibility of urological treatment, benefiting thousands of patients who previously had limited access to such high-end medical care. GMCH, being one of the leading healthcare institutions in Northeast India, will now be better equipped to handle complex urological procedures, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state.

Moreover, this collaboration will facilitate skill enhancement for medical professionals at GMCH, ensuring that they receive training in the latest urological treatment techniques. This will not only improve patient care but also elevate Assam’s medical infrastructure to a level on par with national and international standards.

OIL has consistently demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility by supporting initiatives that foster healthcare, education, and sustainable development. By investing in critical medical advancements at GMCH, the company is taking a decisive step in addressing the pressing healthcare needs of Assam. This initiative underscores OIL’s dedication to making meaningful contributions to society, improving lives, and ensuring better healthcare access for all.

The partnership between OIL and GMCH exemplifies how industry collaboration can play a transformative role in public health. With this initiative, Assam is set to witness a new era in urological treatment, bringing cutting-edge medical solutions closer to the people who need them the most.
