Tura, Oct 19: A person along with a vehicle was detained by the NGOs of Garo Hills on Thursday on suspicion of illegal timber transportation.

South Garo Hills NGOs including AYWO, FAF, FAJGP, AAYF, AAPE, detained one Mahindra pickup, which was being used to export illegal timber from Garo Hills to different places, and a person identified as Gulab Uddin from Assam.

The NGOs alleged that the Gulab Uddin is a known illegal timber smuggler.

The vehicle carrying the illegal timber bore registration number ML-08A-0337.

The seized items were handed over to the GHADC’s Mahendraganj Sub Official, South Garo Hills.
