Shillong, Oct 27: One Elias Siangshai was sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman three years ago.

Siangshai was convicted by the court of N. A. Khan, Sessions Judge, Jowai on October 16.

The court in its order sentenced Siangshai to 15 years of Rigorous Imprisonment and a Rs. 5,000 fine under Section 376(1)(f), and 5 years of Rigorous Imprisonment with a Rs. 1,000 fine under Section 506 Part-II.

Both sentences will run concurrently, with a total remaining imprisonment period of 12 years, 2 weeks, and 4 days after setting off prior detention.

The incident of rape had taken place on November 15, 2021.
