Opposition parties slams government for CAA implementation in Tripura

Must read

Agartala, May 17: The Opposition parties in Tripura condemned the decision of the government after the state government has started the process of implementing Citizenship Amendment Act when the entire country is under the Model Code of Conduct(MCC).

Tripura government has instructed all District Magistrates to form committees and designate officials to process applications received under the CAA. The process includes appointing officials for the State Level Empowered Committee and District Level Committee.

Speaking to reporters, Sudip Roy Barman, Congress MLA and former minister said, “Implementing CAA is not the solution, it will further invite problem for us because the minority community living in Bangladesh and Pakistan might faces problems. Those who were born and brought up in India will share equal rights and liberty with the people those who will come to India. After the influx of the ratio of the tribes down and demography of the state will change”.

“It will bound to encourage the oppressors of the foreign countries to make a mayhem against them. Those minorities who are still living in the foreign countries are bound to face atrocities. It will give a signal to the fundamentalist to torture the religious minorities living in the foreign countries,” said Sudip Roy Barman.

He said, “We are inviting a chaotic situation and once again arms rebellion can returned to Tripura which have seen peace and normalcy after long decade. This can’t be the solution but the government is doing such thing only for election benefits,”.

“Right from the beginning, we are against the CAA and I have personally filed a petition in Supreme Court. This will invite problem for the state of Tripura and northeast. Due to influx the whole northeast already suffered and now again it will invites problem for us. The majority has become minority due to the heavy influx from Bangladesh,” said Jitendra Choudhury, opposition leader and CPIM state secretary.

He said, “Now the CAA will further provoke the situation of influx from Bangladesh. Everyday day legal migration has been happening even the Rohingyas are passing through Tripura to other states. If so happens not only Tripura, the entire population of northeast will suffer,”.

On the other hand, Tripura chief minister Manik Saha said, The direction has come from the central and of course we are going to implement CAA,”.

CAA, was introduced by the Narendra Modi government and passed by Parliament in 2019, aims to confer Indian citizenship to persecute non-Muslim migrants–including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians–who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
