Order to deposit license arms

Tura, March 18: In view of the announcement of General Election 2024 to the Lok Sabha, the District Election Officer, West Garo Hills District has issued an Order under Arms Act 1959 directing all the license holders of arms in West Garo Hills District to deposit their licensed arms to the concerned nearest Police Stations, Outpost and Beat Houses with immediate effect and until further order and also prohibits carrying of licensed arms with a view to maintain law and order and to ensure peaceful conduct of General Elections to Lok Sabha.

The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills district Jagdish Chelani has informed that with the announcement of General Elections 2024 to the Lok Sabha by the Election Commission of India, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been enforced immediately in the entire district. Further, along with the enforcement of MCC, the Flying Squad/ SST/ Video teams, intensive checking for liquor/ cash, contra-banned drugs by flying squads, checking by Excise Department to check illicit trafficking of drugs/ Narcotics/ illegal liquor, etc are also enforced in the entire district.
