Shillong, April 15: Over 1,000 households in 40 villages in Ri Bhoi were affected after a thunderstorm hit the district on Thursday. However, there was no casualty reported.

According to official sources, government installations including a PWD office, BDO office, and a school were among those that were damaged during the cyclonic storm.

Some of the affected villages are Lumnongrim Dewlieh, Syadrit, Syad Heh, Kyrdemkulai, Umroi, Nongrah, Umtrew, they said.

Trees were also uprooted and electricity poles besides plantation and standing crops were damaged during the incident.

The official source also informed that concerned departments have been deployed for clearance and restoration works in the affected villages.
