Shillong, Sept 4: In a series of successful joint operations launched by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, with Manipur Police and other paramilitary forces, significant recoveries of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been made across various districts in Manipur.
The integrated operations involved extensive planning and judicious use of explosive detection dogs, metal detectors and other state of the art equipment.
On August 28, 2024, acting on specific information about the presence of insurgents in a likely hideout in Sekmaijin area of Kakching District, Assam Rifles with Manipur Police recovered one Sten Mark-V rifle, two 12 bore single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols, nine hand grenades and war-like stores.
On August 30, 2024, in Kangpokpi district, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered one Soviet rifle, one local made rifle, a bolt action rifle, one 0.22 pistol, one improvised mortar, six Pompis and war like stores from Changsang near Sagolmang and Ekau Mullam near Saikul.
On September 1, 2024 one 51mm mortar, one rifle MA-3 Mk-II, one AK-47, two Lathodes gun, one .303 rifle, six 9mm pistols, seven single-barrel 12 bore guns, two .22 rifles, twelve single-barrel 12 bore guns, eleven Pompi guns, 49 Improvised Explosive Devices, grenades, tear gas shells, ammunition and war like stores were recovered from Manipur R Corridor, Molnom-Senam Hills, and Saivom Hills, across Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Chandel districts.
The successful joint operations have resulted in recovery of over 50 weapons, large quantity of ammunition and other war-like stores. Recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal.
