Over 500 schools in Meghalaya unrecognized under UDISE

Shillong, Feb 14: There are over 500 schools in Meghalaya which are not covered under the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) of the government.

This was informed by Special Project Director of SSA Swapnil Tembe  after a review meeting.

Tembe said that these 500 schools are not in the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) which is the provision of the central government to recognize every schools in the country.

The second agenda was that there are certain schools which are unrecognized still in the system there is roughly in our state there are 500 schools which has still unrecognized.

Tembe said that recognition meant that schools need to obtain some kind of documents from government officials before operation.

“There is some kind of document which is issued by the government or government officials, for example elementary schools the DSCOs are supposed to issue the recognition. It can be an opening permission, it can be a provisional recognition, it can be a permanent recognition but unfortunately in the system because of the legacy issues that is in the past without receiving these recognitions schools have opened up their functioning” said Tembe.

Tembe said that the Government of India have directed all state government to take care of these unrecognized school.

“So we have asked them to go and verify whether they have all the required basic amenities so that they can be recognised” he added.

He added that the education department will soon notify a standard procedure for all stakeholders to follow before opening of a school.

“If somebody want to start a school they have to apply for permission, they have to show that they have to requisite infrastructure and then opening permission will be issued, then they can start and after three years if they perform well, if there is enrolment then permanent recognition or certificate of recognition will be given and UDISE code will be generated” he added.
