Tura, Oct 27: The NPP MLA of Phulbari, S G Esmatur Mominin, has been given a show cause notice by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for violating campaign rules and holding late night meetings inside villages even though the time limit for campaigns is 7 PM.
“The Congress candidate submitted a written complaint to us and in that complaint letter it mentions Phulbari Phulbari MLA S G Esmatur Mominin and Ex MDC Fozibur Rahman. They are accused of visiting Nalbari and Nayagaon villages after 7 PM and up to 10:30 PM to campaign, which is a violation of the election campaign rules. So both of them have been given show cause notices,” confirmed Returning Officer C N Sangma .
The Congress also faced a similar show cause, this time given to its main election campaign manager for breaking Covid rules and allowing a large number of people to attend a Congress rally in New Bhaitbari on Sunday.
The new MPCC president Vincent Pala as well as Dr Mukul Sangma took part in that election rally. According to the returning officer, sufficient videography and video clippings of news outlets showed the wilful violation of the protocols.
According to the returning officer, for star campaigners rallies there should be not more than 1000 people, but this rule was violated by the Congress campaign manager.
Meanwhile, the returning officer has given special powers to the election flying squads headed by magistrates to file FIR immediately at the spot wherever such violations take place. This order has been done due to repeated violations by politicians and parties in Rajabala during the ongoing contest.
