Shillong, June 18: Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Sanbor Shullai, has stated that any allegation against the department or any individual should be in black and white.

“Any verbal allegation will amount to defamation as it hampers the image of the corporation,” Shullai said in a statement issued on Tuesday. This came following recent allegations made against the allotment of work with regard to the renovation works of the Pinewood Hotel.

Shullai informed that a joint inspection of the Pinewood Hotel was conducted by the Minister in-charge Tourism and the Chairman and Board of Directors of MTDC on May 30, 2024, which shows the coordination and cooperation between the Tourism Department and MTDC.

During the joint inspection, he said, only five members of the board were present and it was very clear during the inspection that only dismantling works had been undertaken by the department. Shullai said the department has issued a statement in this regard that the dismantling works were undertaken by the department and were done with the view to check the stability and condition of the existing wooden structure and determine the detailed scope of work.

“The DPR for the renovation of the Pinewood Hotel is still under preparation after which a tender will be called in an open and transparent manner very soon. I hope this clarification will put to rest this issue,” he said while adding, “The All Meghalaya Contractor and Suppliers Association has expressed their satisfaction after meeting the Director on Friday and it was clarified to them that the tender will be called by the department after the DPR is approved by the government and the copy of the tender will be given to the association for their participation.”
