PM highlights Manipur’s grassroots innovation, women entrepreneurs in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Guwahati, Dec 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday gave special recognition to Manipur’s community-led development efforts while addressing the nation in the 129th episode of Mann Ki Baat, reflecting on India’s achievements in 2025 and setting the tone for the year ahead.

In a wide-ranging address, the Prime Minister recalled milestones in national security, sports, science, culture and youth participation, while underlining how individual initiatives from remote regions are shaping India’s development journey. Manipur featured prominently through examples of renewable energy adoption and women-led entrepreneurship.

PM Modi lauded the work of Moirangthem Seth, a young innovator from a remote part of Manipur who addressed chronic electricity shortages through solar power. According to the Prime Minister, Seth’s campaign to install solar panels has brought electricity to hundreds of households and strengthened healthcare services by powering local health centres.

The initiative, the Prime Minister said, has also supported livelihoods of fishermen and local artists, while empowering women in the region. He noted that such grassroots efforts align closely with national renewable energy programmes, including the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which families receive financial support to install solar panels.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the contribution of women entrepreneurs from Manipur in preserving traditional skills while creating sustainable livelihoods. He cited Margaret Ramtharsiem of Churachandpur, whose handicraft enterprise employs over 50 artisans and has found markets across India, including Delhi.

Another example was Chokhone Krichena of Senapati district, who transformed traditional farming knowledge into a successful floriculture venture, linking local producers with wider markets and strengthening community incomes.

The Prime Minister said these stories from Manipur demonstrate how traditional knowledge, when combined with modern vision, can become a powerful engine of economic progress.

Looking back at 2025, PM Modi referred to achievements ranging from India’s sporting successes to advances in space science, environmental conservation and cultural heritage. He described the year as one that boosted national confidence despite challenges such as natural disasters.

He also urged young Indians to participate actively in nation-building through platforms like the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue and innovation forums such as the Smart India Hackathon.

As this marked the final episode of Mann Ki Baat in 2025, the Prime Minister called on citizens to carry forward the spirit of innovation, cultural pride and community service into 2026. Emphasising health awareness, he cautioned against indiscriminate use of antibiotics and encouraged fitness during the winter season.
