Mahendraganj, Mar 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday sought people’s mandate to re-elect incumbent Lok Sabha MP Agatha K. Sangma for the fourth term.
Addressing multiple election meeting in different areas of Salmanpara namely Gopinatkilla and his ancestral village Chapahati, Sangma tried to strike cord with the electorates banking on his father (L) PA Sangma’s legacy.

“As Chief Minister, when I travel to Delhi, I get recognition because of my father’s contribution to politics. My sister Agatha Sangma has been MP of Tura Lok Sabha for three terms, and she has been articulating concerns of not only Meghalaya and Northeast but of the indigenous people and Christians,” he said, while stating that leadership in Delhi has given due weightage to her voice.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for extending support to Agatha’s candidature, NPP chief Conrad Sangma said, “Prime Minister Modi ji has shown respect to our candidate Agatha Sangma and has clearly indicated their love and respect they have for my late father and my sister. I sincerely thank him (Prime Minister), Home Minister (Amit Shah) and BJP leadership”.
Sangma also lauded Modi for accelerating the momentum of growth and development in the Northeast. He said that Prime Minister has envisioned a brighter future for the country and in the growth story of India, Meghalaya will play a pivotal role.
“India is moving ahead and soon we shall become one of the world’s biggest economy. And when India becomes the top three global economic giant, Meghalaya will surely be part of that growth story,” he added.
Seeking the mandate of the people, he sought cooperation from the electorates to strengthen NPP in the State. He informed the gathering that NPP has been able to push the agenda of growth in the State and has been able to initiate development works across the State.
“This election is important to continue the growth story of Meghalaya and demonstrate the faith of the people in NPP and its leadership”, he said, while thanking the electorates for victory of the NPP in two consecutive assembly elections in the State.
“The wave of NPP across Meghalaya is strong and the voice of NPP has to be heard loud and clear in the Lok Sabha,” he underscored, while informing about the important road connectivity projects between Mahendraganj to Heli in West Bengal via Bangladesh.
NPP chief was accompanied by incumbent MP Agatha K. Sangma, MLAs Sanjay Sangma, Ian Botham Sangma and (L) P.A. Sangma’s widow Soradini K. Sangma.
On Wednesday, he addressed election meeting at Gopinatkilla, Chapahati, Tungrurchar, Daspara and Nandichor in South West Garo Hills.
Seeking people’s support Agatha K Sangma said, “People should vote for NPP and demonstrate their faith in the leadership of Conrad K. Sangma. As MP, I will continue to be your voice in the parliament and raise issues of our people to further the growth of Meghalaya and our country”.
In today’s rally, former CEM of GHADC and BJP leader Dipul Marak, who had recently resigned was formally welcomed in the party. At Mahendraganj, a close aide of (L) PA Sangma Mohammad Abul also resigned from TMC and have joined NPP.
