During the meeting, the Minister informed them that the police have identified nine habitual drug traffickers who has been arrested multiple times and their names have been submitted to the Advisory Board for evaluation before potential booking under the PIT-NDPS Act, entailing three years of non-bailable detention.

HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem, however, emphasized that not only these nine offenders but many others should face charges under the PIT-NDPS Act. He highlighted that while the State Government constituted the Advisory Board as mandated by the PIT-NDPS Act in July 2023, it remains unclear if the Board has recommended any detention cases under the Act to date.

Additionally, the HYC has urged the government to establish Fast-Track/Special Courts dedicated to cases under the NDPS Act.
