SHILLONG, JUNE 28: The state police on Tuesday picked some of the youth for their alleged involvement in the recent assault of two Kerala boys, who were interns of Impulse NGO Network, at Jaiaw area.

Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem told reporters that the process of identifying those involved in the incident is on.

“It is strictly based on identification of people who had been involved in that crime (and they) have been picked up,” he said.

Refusing to divulge more details with regards to the number of youths that have been picked up, Syiem however said, “I can (only) say that positive action is happening, positive results are (coming) in and action is still being initiated.”

The SP also refuted the allegation that at least 10 local youths were picked up from Jaiaw area and said, “There is no fact to this as it is not true”.

When asked if youth, who were detained, belong to a particular organization, Syiem however said, “People can be affiliated to any organization that is not what matters. What matters is whether they are involved or not, we have to establish that.”

According to him, the positive action was taken by the police from all sides which include eye witnesses and CCTV footage.

On June 24, a group of 30 youth allegedly attacked the two interns – Rejaz Sydeek and Sarath Thambi – at Jaiaw.
