Shillong, March 21: The Meghalaya police are actively pursuing leads to identify and capture a female suspect involved in the stabbing of a 25-year-old man in the Khyndailad area, Shillong. The victim, Zecharia Sohthiang, hailing from Mawtary, Mayrdon, Umsning, was attacked on March 19, 2023 near Hotel Pegasus, according to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Dr MG Raghavendra Kumar.
Although the victim has provided a statement to the investigating officer of the case, in which he identified the female assailant, the investigation is still ongoing. “All efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the alleged female assailant,” Dr Kumar said.
After the attack, the victim was rushed to NEIGRIHMS for further medical treatment. An FIR was filed by the victim’s sister, P Sohthiang, with the Sadar police station.
According to the SP, the victim has given conflicting and contradictory statements since the morning of the incident, such as the place of occurrence, time of occurrence, and the suspects’ descriptions. However, during the investigation, it was discovered that the victim had forcefully boarded a private vehicle at Khyndailad near the road leading to Hotel Pegasus on March 18 at approximately 9.45 pm.
The victim had asked for assistance from the four occupants of the vehicle to recover his scooty, which he claimed had been in an accident in Mawprem. However, after reaching Mawprem, the victim confessed to being stabbed and requested the vehicle’s occupants to take him to his temporary residence at Mawshbuit village under the Madanriting police station.
Upon arrival at Mawshbuit at around 12.30 am on March 19, the occupants handed over the victim to his two relatives who were staying with him. The relatives informed EMRI about the matter at 3.59 am and requested an ambulance. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital at approximately 5.30 am by the two relatives in an EMRI ambulance.
