Shillong, July 6: In the run up to the 2023 election in Meghalaya, two Ex MDCs and founding Members of the People Democratic Front (PDF) Albinus Lyngdoh and Hadrian Lyngdoh on Wednesday officially resigned.
Speaking to the media, Ex MDC Albinus said that his resignation from the PDF is due to personal reasons and has nothing to do with the party. “As the founding member of the PDF, I have contested MLA and MDC elections from the party in 2018 and 2019. This time around, I feel that the competition in Umroi constituency is between NPP, TMC and INC,” he said.
“…however, along with my supporters we have decided not to contest for the upcoming 2023 MLA election”, he added.
When asked, Lyngdoh replied that there are series of discussions as to whom he and his supporters will support in the election next year.
Former MDC of Mawkyrwat Hadrian Lyngdoh said, “I have resigned from the PDF yesterday (June 5). In a few days, I will decide which party to join.”
He also stated that he was the founder member of PDF way back in 2011. According to him, the political scenario in Mawkyrwat is very peculiar as apparently three parties are a favourite amongst the constituents – the Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), United Democratic Party (UDP), and the Congress.
“These three parties are like siblings. Each of them won the Mawkyrwat election thrice,” Lyngdoh said.
Stating that he chose not to contest the 2023 general elections, he said that it would be tough to contest from PDF as it would not garner votes.
