Jowai, Sept 18: The office of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jaiñtia Hills celebrated the “Poshan Vatika Mahabhiyan and Tree Plantation” or “National Campaign on Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation” at KVK Farm situated at Wahiajer. 

During this programme, the welcome speech was delivered by Dr D. Pasweth, Senior Scientist & Head  of KVK Jaiñtia Hills. He welcomed the farmers and the officials from different department to the programme and also highlighted the concepts of the programme and also about millets, the nutri-cereal.R. Lamare, Scientific Officer, Research Office, Jowai, West Jaiñtia Hills delivered a speech on the importance of millets  which are known to be a repository of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.

M. Kharbuli, Farm Manager, KVK Jaintia Hills delivered a speech on Nutri garden and tree plantation and stressed on the need and importance of adopting Nutri gardens for ensuring accessibility to nutrient rich fruits and vegetables and also for benefit enhancement. Farmers were also encouraged to include local herbs and vegetables in their nutri gardens along with indigenous fruit trees. As part of the programme a demonstration by the Farm Manager, KVK Jaintia Hills on tree plantation was also held with farmers actively participating hands on planting the fruit trees in the fruit orchard of KVK.During the programme seeds and tree saplings were also distributed to the 64 participating farmers.
