AJMRWLU gives Oct 1st ultimatum to Govt to fulfill their demands

Jowai, Sept 18: The All JaiƱtia Muster Rolls Workers & Labour Union (AJMRWLU) during a meering held at Chiliangraij, Jowai, has threaned to go to the Court to meet their demands of increasing their wages and the implementation of the Meghalaya Regular Casual Worker Scheme 1996.The President of the Union, L. Pariat informed that they had met the Labour Minister in 2018 and put up their demands, but they haven’t been met till date.

He stated that as per the Meghalaya Regular Casual Worker Scheme, 1996, workers who have served for more than 10 years are entitled to be paid as per the 4th Grade scale of pay which is equivalent to the chowkidar, peon.

Also, the Minimum Wages Act, 1951 states that the daily wages should be increased twice a year. “But the Government has not paid heed to our demands,” he said.

The Union has threatened that if by 1st October 2021 their demands are not met, it will approach the Court to get relief.
