Shillong, Jan 23: SK Choudhury, a prominent State resident, on Sunday began an indefinite hunger strike along with his wife against the atrocities against non-tribals since 1979, the perpetrators of which continue to roam the streets with impunity.
Choudhury and his wife are staging the indefinite hunger strike at Khyndailad.
Choudhury said he has decided to stage the hunger till their death for the cause of severe atrocities on the Bengali communities in particular and all other non-tribal populace of Meghalaya starting from 1979 till January 20, 2022.
On Jan 20th afternoon, 55-year-old Chandan Paul, a shopkeeper, was stabbed and two others were assaulted by a group of 10-12 masked miscreants right opposite the Lumdiengjri police station in Shillong. Police said the incident occurred so quickly that they couldn’t react on time.
“Till date not a single murderer, looters, gang of money extortion and many other criminals have not been convicted or given punishment as per the law of Indian constitution. We being the citizens of India are ill treated here as third grade populace. I have my democratic rights to protest in Noble Silence against more than 40 years of atrocities,” Choudhury said.
“Till the time Government of Meghalaya commit our fundamental rights and punish those culprits we shall not break our fasting,” he added.
