Pynursla Sub-Division bans pollution of water bodies to protect Umngot River

SHILLONG, DEC 16: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, EL Warjri, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to prevent pollution of water bodies within the jurisdiction.

The order, effective immediately, prohibits dumping of waste and said that no person or entity shall dump waste, sewage, plastics, chemicals, construction debris, or pollutants into rivers, streams, ponds, or drinking water sources.

The order also said that washing of vehicles, clothes, or equipment in public water bodies is strictly banned adding discharge of industrial or commercial effluents into natural water bodies is prohibited.

The order aims to protect public health, aquatic ecology, and environmental sustainability, as pollution poses a serious threat to the tributaries feeding the Umngot River.
