Imphal, June 30: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after meeting Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday said that “Manipur needs peace”. He further said that he wants peace to be restored in Manipur.
Rahul Gandhi also said that he visited some relief camps, there are deficiencies in these relief camps, and the government should work for this.
“I share the pain of the people of Manipur. It is a horrible tragedy. It is extremely sad and painful for all the people of Manipur and the people of India as well. I went to the camps and met people from all communities. One of the things I would say to the government is that the basic amenities at the camps need to be improved. Food needs to be improved. Medicines need to be supplied. Such complaints have come from the camps.” he said.
He further said, “I would appeal to everybody in Manipur that we need peace. My strong appeal to everyone is that violence will not get anything for anybody. Peace is the way forward and everybody should now talk about peace and start moving towards it. I am here and will help in any way I can to bring peace to this state.”
“I love all the people of Manipur, and once again, this is a terrible tragedy, and we need to bring peace here,” he added.

Earlier on Friday, Rahul Gandhi shared a series of pictures from his visit to the relief camps on his social media accounts and wrote, “It’s heartbreaking to see and listen to the plight of those who have lost loved ones and homes due to the violence in Manipur.There is a cry for help in the face of every brother, sister and child I meet.The most important thing Manipur needs now is Peace – to secure the lives and livelihoods of our people. All our efforts must unite towards that goal.”
On Friday Morning, he had visited relief camps where he met thousands of people.

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Imphal on Thursday. He is on a visit to the violence hit state for two days.
