Raksamgre MLA Benedic Marak denied ticket, NPP announces Limison Sangma as candidate

Must read

TURA, June 11: Sitting NPP MLA Benedic R Marak has literally been shown the door by his party after Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma visited Tikrikilla and Raksamgre on Saturday and officially announced the candidature of Limison D Sangma for Raksamgre constituency for next year’s assembly elections.

The move to deny Benedic Marak the party ticket comes after he rebelled against the party leadership and refused to step down from GHADC CEM position in January, this year, despite calls to do so.

The NPP had to move a no-confidence motion against him after Benedic Marak took the support of opposition All India Trinamool Congress MDCs to try and remain in power.

Despite Trinamool support, Benedic lost the no-confidence vote and was removed from the CEM position. The GHADC Chairman Rakesh A Sangma was elected the new CEM for a brief period of time before Siju MDC Albinush Marak took over following protests from various organisations opposed to Rakesh Sangma.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that Limison Sangma, who won two terms from Raksamgre, was a seasoned politician who represented the constituency twice and hence would be the NPP candidate.

Benedic Marak is a first time MLA but won the GHADC MDC seat from Raksamgre for the second term, last year.
