Itanagar, April 24: Following reports of EVM damage and instances of violence during the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls on April 19, repolling has commenced in eight polling stations across Arunachal Pradesh.
In response to these incidents, the Election Commission issued an order on Sunday, declaring the polling in the eight stations as void and scheduling fresh polling for today from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The affected polling stations include Sario in the Bameng assembly constituency in East Kameng district, Longte Loth under Nyapin assembly seat in Kurung Kumey, and Dingser, Bogiya Siyum, Jimbari, and Lengi polling booths under Nacho constituency in Upper Subansiri district.
Additionally, repolling is underway in Bogne and Molom polling booths under the Rumgong assembly constituency in Siang district, according to the communique released by the Election Commission.
During the initial polling on April 19, an estimated 76.44% of the total 8,92,694 voters exercised their franchise to elect 50 MLAs for the 60-member assembly in the northeastern state. Notably, the ruling BJP had already secured victory in 10 assembly seats uncontested.
As repolling proceeds, authorities remain vigilant to ensure fair and peaceful elections, upholding the democratic process in Arunachal Pradesh.
