SHILLONG, APR 24: The state government is yet to appoint the vice chancellor of the Captain Williamson Sangma State University.
“We are not able to appoint the vice chancellor (due to the elections) although the process is almost completed,” Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma told reporters on Tuesday.
He said the appointment of the vice chancellor will be made once the model code of conduct (MCC) period is over.
In his reply during the Budget Session of the Assembly on February 21, 2024 , Rakkam had informed that the government is planning to make the state university functional by this year. However due to the Lok Sabha elections, the university will have to be made functional by 2025.
He had stated in his reply that the government is in the process of sanctioning 100 additional posts of faculty in Tura and 6 for Shillong campus.
According to him, the financial implication for this is Rs 45.7 crore annually.
So far a total of Rs 16.96 crore has been spent on construction of infrastructure for the university.
The construction of administrative block and academic block and construction of boys and girls hostel have been completed
So far 58 posts have been sanctioned including vice chancellor and registrar. He also informed that internal roads and water supply have also been sanctioned.
The Board of Governors has been constituted. The first Board of Governor meeting was held on January 14, 2022 chaired by the Education Minister.
